Full-Time Django Developer; Small team at huge scale
NOTE: This job listing has expired and may no longer be relevant!
Chatterbox (chatterbox.co) is looking for an experienced Django developer who would feel at home in a small company where their decisions directly shape the company and its products. You love working with large, realtime & social datasets in Python and can build data analytics software at scale. You would work closely with Chatterbox’s CTO to reevaluate Chatterbox’s beta platform codebase and get to develop an enterprise grade platform.
On top of your salary, Chatterbox aims to reward outstanding performance with share options and you get to spend your days in a fun atmosphere full of startups at the Wayra Academy.
Candidates must be eligible and willing to work in London.
Skills & Requirements
Enthusiasm and drive are key in any applicant, in addition we’d like to see…
BSc in Computer Science (or related), MSc preferable
We’d like to see evidence of extensive Django experience combined with experience of jQuery (& other JS libraries), postgresql, version control & JSON/web APIs. You need to have a passion for social media (it is, you know, what we do!) and be ready to take a leading development role in our small but fast paced company. There are also times that you’ll need to liaise with non-technical staff so an ability to speak non-technically is essential.
On top of this if you have experience with noSQL databases (particularly MongoDB), cloud services (e.g. Amazon Web Services), mobile app development (on any or all of the major platforms), organising and running developer days and agile development processes.. we’ll get excited.
Icing on the cake stuff…
If you happen to have an interest in machine learning (that you can demonstrate) or have used Hadoop & other data processing technologies this will certainly make us sit up and listen.
Chatterbox (chatterbox.co) is a rapidly growing startup that tracks and measures conversations in social media to help brands identify and manage their brand advocates. We are part of Telefonica’s Wayra accelerator programme (in London) and are backed by research emerging from Queen Mary University of London. You’ll be joining Chatterbox’s founding team, Stuart & Matt, who you can see here: youtu.be/WQBfmcUo8iE.
How to Apply
If you think we’d work well together please send an up to date CV and a completed Python test script (see below) to firstname.lastname@example.org. In your email please tell us how long it took to code the script. There’s flexibility on the start date, but we expect September 2012 at the latest. If you’ve any questions please ping us an email.
- Your python script must run under Python 2.7 on a Mac. Please include some documentation for any libraries that must be installed first. You may use which ever libraries or techniques you feel solve the problem best.
- The script must read a search term from the shell (e.g. ‘syria’), typed in by the user.
- The script must then connect to Twitter’s Search API and collect the most recent 10 tweets which contain this search term, only in English.
- For each tweet collected, the script should print to the terminal the author’s username and the tweet text to the screen.
- The script should then do something awesome of your choice – this is totally up to you.
